The Law Offices of William F. Underwood, III, P.C., sponsored this year’s Red Lipstick Run, and our attorney participated in the event!
The Red Lipstick Run is an event that aims to raise awareness of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), and benefit The ChadTough Foundation for DIPG research.
DIPG is a type of tumor that develops on the pons area of the brain stem. This condition most often affects children between the ages of 5 and 7, and accounts for 10 to 15% of all childhood brain tumors. The survival rate of children who have been diagnosed with DIPG is very low — the median length of survival after a diagnosis is nine months, and less than 1% of patients are long-term survivors of the condition.
The typical treatment for DIPG is radiation. Sadly, there have been few developments in DIPG treatment in recent years. The Red Lipstick Run hopes to change that by informing the public about the effects of DIPG.
The most recent Red Lipstick Run took place on Saturday, May 18th at Wild Side Running in Albany, Georgia. Participants could run in the event’s one mile, 5k, and 8k runs, and the top three runners in each of the run’s nine age groups received medals.
Thank you to the organizers of the Red Lipstick Run and The ChadTough Foundation for holding such a great event, and for all that they do for families affected by DIPG. Their work is a driving force in the fight against this condition.
